This Privacy Policy describes how Murmr ("we," "us," or "our") handles data when you download, install, and use the Murmr desktop application (the "Software") and visit our website. Unlike traditional SaaS or cloud-based applications, Murmr is built on a local-first architecture — your privacy is hardcoded into the software design.

Section 01The Local-First Architecture

Murmr processes all operations locally on your personal device.

Zero cloud storage

Your audio inputs, voice recordings, transcribed text, notes, and modified outputs are processed entirely within your machine's local CPU and RAM.

No server visibility

We do not host, view, intercept, store, or have access to any of your voice data or text contents. Your data never leaves your machine to touch our servers.

Section 02Information We Collect and How We Use It

Because the Software operates locally, our data collection is limited strictly to transaction execution and software distribution.

Email address

We collect your email address when you request a download link or purchase a license. This email is used exclusively to deliver the installer link, distribute license verification data, and transmit critical software updates or legal notices.

Billing information

All financial transactions are securely routed through our third-party payment processor, Stripe. We receive a confirmation token containing basic transaction details (date of purchase, amount paid, email status). We never collect, view, or store raw credit card numbers or financial credentials.

Telemetry & analytics

We do not collect telemetry, crash logs, error tracking reports, or usage metrics. The Software operates entirely "dark" regarding behavioral tracking.

Section 03Third-Party Services and Open-Source Models

The Software triggers external network calls only under the following operational conditions.

Model procurement

Upon initial execution or explicit update prompts, the Software fetches open-source computational, neural network, and dictation models directly from third-party public repositories (such as Hugging Face). This network transfer occurs directly between your local device and the repository infrastructure; Murmr does not broker, log, or assume liability for this traffic or the upstream models.

Payment processing

Financial transactions are subject to the privacy terms dictated by Stripe.

Section 04Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Murmr does not knowingly collect or solicit personally identifiable information (such as email addresses) from children under the age of 13. If you are under 13, please do not attempt to download the Software or send any personal information about yourself to us. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13, we will delete that information from our databases as quickly as possible.

Section 05Data Security and Retention

Your local files

You are entirely responsible for the security, encryption, and backup of your data on your local hard drive. We have no mechanism to recover, restore, or wipe data stored on your system.

Our databases

We retain your transaction email and licensing records indefinitely to maintain your software distribution channel and verify your status unless you explicitly request deletion.

Section 06Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy to align with future product iterations — such as the integration of optional cloud-powered API systems or subscription models. Any material adjustments will be accompanied by an update to the "Last Updated" date and communicated via the email address registered to your download link.
